Augmented Reality Experience

(Ben-10 Inspired Watch)

I created this project in the Fall of 2023 for a 3d modeling and augmented reality class. The inspiration for this project comes from the tv show Ben-10, in which the main character finds a watch from outer space that allows him to morph into different creatures to fight crime. With all of the limitations that Adobe Aero has, it took me a long time to figure out what all I was going to be able to accomplish. I created this project by using the image surface anchor option within Adobe Aero. I found all of the 3d models online or in the Cinema 4D asset browser and then animated them all moving up & down and rotating and then created wireframe-style materials for each one in Cinema 4D. This allowed the creatures to look like they were coming out of the watch in a preview style. I also ended up deciding to add music in Adobe Aero for each creature. I also made a custom surface anchor image in Adobe Illustrator for each one of the creatures which is used to set a surface anchor for the animation to play off of the watch. I then added all of these things into Adobe Aero and adjusted the settings, scale, etc. in Adobe Aero to make them all cohesive. From there, I created my actual watch out of cardboard and then printed out the surface anchor images and glued them on to circles of cardboard cut-outs and attached command strips to the backs of them to attach them to the watch. This allows the user to try out all 5 of the different creatures by simply taking one surface anchor off of the watch and putting the other one with velcro command strips. I also printed out each Aero QR code, so that people had easy access to them when we did our final review. People can just can the QR code and then find one of the surface anchors on the watch to start the AR experience.
